Background & Location
Poynton is an attractive village set in north-east Cheshire, bordering the Peak District National Park, yet within easy commuting distance of Manchester, Macclesfield and Stockport. It is an affluent area with a higher than average elderly population, and no significant deprivation.

Priorslegh Medical Centre is a forward looking, innovative practice of seven GP principals plus one Associate GP. They comprising four full-time partners (three male and one female) and three part-time female partners, and an Associate GP who works three sessions per week. Partners’ areas of special interest and expertise include asthma, women's health, men's health, soft tissue injuries, minor surgery, care of the elderly.

The Practice draws its patients from Poynton, Hazel Grove and surrounding villages, and has a stable list size of approximately 11,800.

Premises
The Surgery premises were purpose-built in 1995 and offer excellent conditions, with fully equipped consulting rooms for each doctor with desktop e-mail and internet access; fully equipped treatment room; comprehensive clinical library with internet access; on site free car parking; pleasant patient and staff facilities, and supported by a well trained and friendly Primary Health Care Team.

Training & Education
The practice gained recognition as an ‘Investor in People’ organisation in 2000, for its commitment to training and development. In 2006 we were re-assessed and continue to be recognised as an 'Investor in People’. We were one of the first Practices to develop a Practice Professional Development Plan ensuring that education and training for all staff is a high priority. In support of this philosophy we arrange weekly clinical education meetings and regular training half days for our staff.

Medical Students
The Practice has been appointed as a University Teaching Practice by the University of Manchester Faculty of Medicine, Dentistry, Nursing and Pharmacy for community-based medicine.

Clinical services
We offer a comprehensive range of services and clinics including asthma/COPD management, diabetes management, coronary heart disease monitoring, travel medicine (we are a registered yellow fever centre), cervical smears, blood pressure assessments, healthy lifestyle advice, smoking cessation support, minor surgery.
We have two excellent District General Hospitals close by, as well as the specialist facilities of the University Hospitals in Manchester and Salford.

Medical Library
The Practice has a comprehensive clinical library which is available to all staff and has a good range of up-to-date General Practice textbooks and journals, as well as access to e-mail and on-line libraries via the NHSweb

Out of Hours arrangements
Our out-of-hours arrangements are covered by the Eastern Cheshire Primary Care Group Out of Hours Service from 6.30 pm to 8.00 am each week day and all day weekends and bank holidays.

IM&T
The Practice is fully computerised, utilising the EMIS LV clinical system for patient management, integrated with PCTI WorkFlow for electronic document management. Patients who register as EMIS Access users can make appointments and order repeat prescriptions over the internet, and we have introduced ePMS - an on-line pharmacy service.
All consultations are by 10 minute appointments, and we currently achieve the National 48 hour access targets.

To Register as a Patient

The Practice catchment area includes Poynton, Hazel Grove, Adlington,  and parts of Prestbury, Pot Shrigley and Woodford.

If you would like to register as a patient with Priorslegh, and you live within the catchment area,  ask at Reception for a patient registration form and a medical questionnaire. You will be asked to make an appointment with the Practice Nurse for a new patient medical.
